Found a little slice of home in a supermarket – I am going to butcher the name – but Gibonica can be found for cheap and enjoyed as much as you please. Yum!
Rijeka is the town over from Pula, much different from its neighbor this town is both industrial and breath-taking. Right on the Adriatic, there are old and new buildings alike though the old communist-type buildings inspire thoughts and stories as we walk past.
A little Croatian friend we met in Rijeka, the town over from Pula.
Roman temple in the forum of Pula, who’s that good-lookin’ guy there?
Like a water goddess, Tiffany in fading sun.
Sunset at the beach in Briuni.
Down the road from the hostel was this ruined building overgrown and mysterious. Places like this dot the coast and inspire so much curiosity every time.
Our hostel in Briuni, we had the room to ourselves, and an incredible view of the Adriatic.
Lookin’ like a proper cowgirl, Tiff and I on a bus to Briuni.
My host, Claudia and myself before our departure. So generous and kind, she was the perfect host.
This was the garden at the BnB, our host Claudia did not speak much English but we both understood how to care for a garden.
The grapes were so sweet and tasty.
We stayed our first night in a BnB, with shade under a roof of grape vines and a massive kitchen garden, this place was a gem.
Strapped up and ready to go, this was my first day in Croatia and we were leaving the BnB
sarcophagi are just lying around this archeological museum, it was way too easy to really experience history – Tiff smiling even in death.
Tiff in front of the newly uncovered amphitheater
This amphitheater we actually stumbled upon by accident. Taking a back alley along the wall of an old fort, we came out onto a vista to see an archaeological dig in action! I actually offered to help a little, but I think my stumbling elementary Croatian bungled that up. It was still a great thing to see.
Central market in Pula, vegetables ranging from tie-dyed beans and heirloom tomatoes. All under the sun and filled with glorious people.
Roman Arena in Pula, the massive stone structure dominates the landscape. I stared up in awe for way too long, oblivious to the world and just awe-struck by the vastness of the edifice.
Tiffany, in front of the arena
Limbering up for the Gladiator bout.
